Compensating french horn fingerings…?
I recently acquired a new french horn via my new school in Germany. I’m accustomed to using either a F single horn or a regular double. I did some research, and found out that my new horn is known as a ‘compensating french horn’ and don’t know the fingerings for it. A little help, please?
If it is a true Compensating horn then the fingerings are the same as a double. To be a compensator it should still have slides coming out of both the top and bottom of the valve sets, like a double. The difference is that on a compensator when the Bb side is used the air goes through the Bb slides on the top but when the F side is used the air STILL goes through the Bb slides but then it runs through the valves again and goes through the “add on” slides on the bottom.
If the fingerings are different it may not be a compensating double.
