High End French horn. Schmid?
I’m searching for an occupation level french horn. I’ve been using a 20year old Holton 279 within the last 20 years. While in a horn workshop from the IHS I’d the chance to test a number of different horns, including Paxman, Alexander, Engelbert Schmid, Hendes Hoyer and Finke. My faves were the Hoyer 6801NSAL and also the Schmid ES1. Like a university student I’m on the limited budget but require a good solid horn especially through the rest of my college and grad school. For those who have personal expertise using the E. Schmid or the others, please let me know about your horn…all of the good, bad and also the ugly. Thanks.
I’ve got a Paxman 20AN and like it! It’s a little old and also the valves do not have great compression just like a new horn however i still like it. Also Paxman continues to be excellent about responding to questions in regards to the horn and possible needed repairs (despite the fact that they would not be those repairing it) They’ve been very useful which is one thing that’s worth thinking about when purchasing a horn.
