holton brass
what happened to the original holton musical instrument company?
I’m using a holton trombone now, and I went to the Holton (leBlanc) company page, but all they do now is clarinets??? Where is the brass divsion of Holton?
Frank Holton was a separate company for a lot of years back in the 1900′s. Frank was a trombone player for John Phillip Sousa. The company was purchased by Leblanc in 1964 and Leblanc kept the brass line active until Conn-Selmer acquired Leblanc in 2004.
Conn-Selmer was already a huge amalgamation of the biggest names in band instruments. They have Selmer (Bach), Conn, King, Benge, etc… so adding Leblanc gave them Holton and there was no real good reason to keep making instruments with so many different brands so they consolidated a lot of lines in the second half of the 2000-2010.
Essentially, the brass/trombone lines are now King, Conn, and Bach.
