I want to learn a brass instrument just to march it?
I march alto saxophone, play bassoon in the concert band and previously played clarinet but I want to start learning a brass instrument so I can march it and try out for a DCI group, but as you can see I have no experience with brass instruments. Which should I go for and which is less common in marching bands so I have more chance of making the cut?
DCI doesn’t use trombones, so you’ll need to learn a bell-front valved instrument. That would give you the options of trumpet, mellophone, marching baritone, and possibly tuba. Bands often use Sousaphones, but corps use tubas that sit on the shoulder.
