Whats a good model of an alto sax that would be good for a beginner and is under $300?
Either looking for a used or a new one. I’m an experienced trumpet player looking to broaden my horizons. Any ideas?

Trying to stay under $300 will make it tough, but your best bet is probably to find a used Yamaha YAS-23. They are very common student horns and there are several of them on Ebay right now. I would stay away from any new horns that are in that price range — they will be more trouble than they are worth.
The Yamahas are solid, well built instruments and are very consistent from one horn to the next. The key is to find one that is in good condition and hasn’t been beaten up by the previous owner. Whatever you get on Ebay, you should expect to have to put some money into it for repairs, though. Just examine the photos closely before bidding.
